Creative Film Director

 

As the Creative Film Director you are responsible for the creative delivery of content. You are the creative lead of your group and you will lead the filmmaking team and the development of video content across premium groups and channels (Road, Triathlon or Off Road) .

You’ll work closely with the producer in your group, lead the group’s creative strategy and direct shoots to deliver on the editorial strategy and commercial plans. You will work with producers, production managers and research coordinators to interpret and realise the creative vision.

You will develop and inspire the Filmmaking team in your group to increase both technical and creative ability to constantly evolve PSN’s content.  You will instil the work ethic required in your team, especially Filmmakers, and demonstrate excellent organisational and communication skills, a passion for working in a fast paced, dynamic environment and a desire to get the job done.

As a Creative Film Director you will be leading and contributing to the filming and editing of Play Sports Network  Premium video output. This often involves working on location, both in the UK and abroad. You must have excellent base of creative filmmaking skills and your work should be an inspirational example to the video creative team.

On location the Creative Film Director works independently or with a presenter as part of a small team. On a large project you may work with a sound effects editor, music editor and assistant editors. The role may be pressured, for example, when working intensively to strict deadlines with limited studio or location.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the creative output of premium content and supporting online groups
  • The Creative Film Director mentors the filmmakers in the group
  • Take the film from the development stage to the finished product.
  • Lead and motivate the team, ensuring that the vision for the content is communicated and understood and that the editorial specification is realised
  • Instill the right work ethic in Filmmakers
  • Assist with hiring the creative team
  • Oversee several projects from start to finish, keeping to deadlines, and sign off on these projects before they screened.
  • Mentor and feedback on creative to the Filmmakers in your team
  • Direct presenters where appropriate and necessary
  • Ensure permission and rights for any licensed material used (music, images etc)
  • Ensure that the Filmmakers  understand the process for correctly using licensed material in content (music, images etc)
  • Work with production to keep shoots within budget and deliver creative vision.
  • Support  the PSN equipment manager who are responsible for the camera equipment and kit for the group
  • Decide on who from the creative team works on which content
  • Ensure all Play Sports Network audio and video equipment is used according to instructions.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Experienced in location and studio filming
  • Adept at shooting video, operating lights and audio equipment
  • Able to demonstrate proficiency with video editing software – Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro or similar
  • Experience of leading, providing direction to and managing a team of creative people.
  • Able to prioritise projects and complete them with efficiency and accuracy
  • Able to learn quickly and adapt to changes in organisational priorities
  • Comfortable being busy working to deadlines and juggling multiple projects. This environment can be high-pressure at times
  • Working at the cutting edge of new technology, you will be expected to grasp changes in technical innovation across multiple platforms and you’ll need to keep up to date with emerging industry trends
